The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant Hector G. Risigari-Gai, Jr. (MCSN: 0-15596), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Leader of a Reconnaissance Platoon of the Twenty-seventh Marines, FIFTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, 4 March 1945. Voluntarily leading a reconnaissance party eight hundred yards inside Japanese lines, to secure vital information for his Regiment, First Lieutenant Resigari-Gai penetrated terrain not yet covered by our forces and constantly exposing himself to enemy observation, moved to points of vantage to secure the necessary information. Through his skill and leadership, he successfully completed his mission without a single casualty and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
