The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Peter Ricciuti (MCSN: 460292), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Member of Company B, First Battalion, Second Marines, Second Marine Battalion, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 2 July 1944. Guiding supporting tanks across an open field through heavy enemy fire, Corporal Ricciuti directed their assault upon enemy positions and, although once wounded, continued his mission until a second wound forced him down. Continuing to fire, he covered his platoon’s front until they could move forward and permit him to be evacuated. His courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
