The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private McCoy Reynolds (MCSN: 364028), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the Eighth Marines, Reinforced, during action against enemy Japanese forces at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, on 25 November 1942. Boldly advancing toward the crest of a hill with other members of his squad, Private Reynolds braved heavy machine gun fire to creep within twenty feet of the enemy and throw two grenades into the emplacement, killing two Japanese gunners and destroying the gun. While moving to a more advantageous position from which to cover the consolidation of his squad, he was killed by an enemy sniper. He gallantly gave up his life in the service of his country.
