The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant Ruskin E. Reddoch (MCSN: 0-17737), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Platoon Leader of Company K. Third Battalion, THIRD Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Mariana Islands, 21 July 1944. Quickly organizing his platoon after landing on the beach, First Lieutenant Reddoch led his men in the assault of the high ground approximately eight hundred yards to the front despite intense enemy fire and, refusing to leave the field after sustaining a wound in this action, aided in the annihilation of four of the enemy. When his intermediate objective was taken, he paused long enough to receive first aid before leading his men in the successful assault on their final objective, and inflicted heavy losses on the enemy who were well dug in on the high ground, thereby contributing materially to our success in this strategic campaign. His professional skill, courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
