The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Kenneth E. Price (MCSN: 292198), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as acting platoon sergeant of Company E, Second Battalion, Twenty-second Marines (Reinforced), First Provisional Marines Brigade in action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Mariana Islands from 21 Jul to 10 August 1944. Fearlessly leaving his foxhole despite a heavy enemy artillery barrage which was falling on his lines on the night of 25 July, Sergeant Price went to the aid of three wounded Marines in a nearby position and promptly administered first aid thereby saving the lives of two of the men who might otherwise have perished. Undaunted by another intense barrage of hostile artillery fire the following morning, Sergeant Price inspired his men to greater efforts in repelling the enemy by his skillfully directions and personal example. His resourceful initiative, courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
