The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Field Music Theodore Powers (MCSN: 283114), United States Marine Corps, for heroic achievement while serving with the Third Battalion, Twenty-fifth Marines, FOURTH Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands on 23 June 1944. Upon finding a large group of Japanese attempting to establish positions in the area, Field Music Powers unhesitatingly charge the enemy alone and succeeded in killing three of their number and scattering the remainder before he fell, mortally wounded. By his indomitable fighting spirit and daring courage, Field Music Powers contributed materially to the success of his company’s vital mission on this island and his unselfish devotion to duty throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
