The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Junior Pieratt (MCSN: 485579), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company F, Second Battalion, Sixth Marines, SECOND Marine Division during action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands on 15 June 1944. When his platoon was held up by strong enemy positions, Corporal Pieratt braved hostile fire to return to the regimental command post for three tanks, which he guided back to his platoon and remaining with them, directed their fire which destroyed three enemy machine guns, thereby enabling his platoon to advance and seize the objective. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Corporal Pieratt and the United States Naval Service.
