The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Dale L. Palm (MCSN: 279618), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company M, Third Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Peleliu, Palau Islands on 4 October 1944. Wounded in both legs by an enemy hand grenade during his company’s attack across an open plain in the Umurbrogal Mountain Area, Sergeant Palm steadfastly remained in the fierce action and, realizing the importance of his unit’s assignment proceeded to an ammunition dump to carry back hand grenades to his lines. By his courage and initiative, Sergeant Palm contributed materially to the success of his company’s mission and his devotion to duty throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
