The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Warrant Officer Oliver W. Ostmeyer (MCSN: 0-31576), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Platoon Leader of Company F, Second Battalion, Fourth Marines (Reinforced), First Provisional Marine Brigade, Third Amphibious Corps, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Marianas Island, 28 July 1944. Advancing fifty yards in front of his platoon in full view of the enemy, Warrant Officer Ostmeyer contacted the commander of a friendly tank and informed him of the platoon’s position. Moving back to his men, he was attacked by an enemy officer and, killed the Japanese. His fighting spirit and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Warrant Officer Ostmeyer and the United States Naval Service.
