The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Peter P. Navisky (MCSN: 853289), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Gunner, serving with company F, Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, 13 April 1945. During an advance through a fiercely defended sector, Private First Class Navisky resolutely engaged in a bitter duel with two enemy machine guns only thirty yards away and, although all supporting riflemen had been killed or wounded in this advance, refused to withdraw to safety. At times kneeling by his gun, he hurled grenades into hostile emplacements until the guns were silenced. Mortally wounded in this engagement, Private First class Navisky, by his courageous determination had provided effective support for the difficult advance if his company. His valiant devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
