The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Tommy T. Morgan (MCSN: 516820), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving in a Platoon of Company B, First Battalion, Twenty-eighth Marines, FIFTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, 8 March 1945. Seeing a member of his platoon struck down by the explosion of enemy hand grenades, Corporal Morgan moved forward under intense hostile fire to administer first aid to the wounded man. Although wounded himself while administering aid, he succeeded in evacuating the casualty to safety. By his courage, initiative and inspiring actions under enemy fire, Corporal Morgan upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
