The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Otto G. Mohacsi (MCSN: 333498), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Member of an Assault Engineer Platoon serving with the Eighth Marines, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Tinian, Mariana Islands, 2 August 1944. When his squad was assigned the extremely hazardous mission of neutralizing several caves and strong enemy positions, Sergeant Mohacsi daringly advanced alone in the face of intense hostile fire to throw several demolition charges into the area. Again exposing himself to enemy fire to determine the effectiveness of his efforts, he was mortally wounded. His unwavering devotion to duty and courageous aggressiveness reflect the highest credit upon Sergeant Mohacsi and the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
