The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel Wyman F. Marshall (MCSN: 0-4809), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as pilot of Naval transport planes attached to Marine Aircraft Group TWENTY-FIVE, operating in the Solomon Islands area from 6 September to 1 November 1942. Displaying extreme courage and outstanding ability Lieutenant Colonel Marshall flew emergency supplies and equipment for troops in that territory and evacuated the wounded despite the ever-present danger from enemy aircraft and continual ground fire from hostile troops. Although flying a plane with no defensive armament when attacked by machine-gun fire from hostile aircraft, Lieutenant Colonel Marshall made a successful landing at Henderson Field on Guadalcanal. His heroic devotion to duty throughout numerous hazardous missions was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
