The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Dallas William Maloney (MCSN: 831827), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the Third Amphibious Corps, Fleet Marine Force, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Peleliu Island, Palau Group, 26 September 1944. When members of his unit were wounded and pinned down by treacherous enemy sniper fire, Private First Class Maloney constantly exposed himself to hostile fire while crawling to a wounded Marine and carrying him to a place of safety. This rescue effected, he attempted the evacuation of another wounded comrade but was shot and killed in making the heroic effort. His daring courage and unwavering devotion to duty at the risk of his own life reflect great upon Private First Class Maloney and the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
