    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to First Lieutenant Raymond L. Luckel (MCSN: 0-9279), United States Marine Corps, for gallantry in action at New Georgia, Solomon Islands, while leading his company skillfully and aggressively against key positions of the enemy’s main line, thereby accounting for fourteen hostile machine guns and disposing of eighteen of the enemy on 1 July 1943.
