The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Private Walter J. Louviere (MCSN: 369992), United States Marine Corps, for gallantry in action on 22 January 1943, at Guadalcanal. While the company of which he was a member was halted by enemy machine gun fire, Private Louviere continued to man his automatic rifle until the enemy machine gun was silenced. Private Louviere was wounded in the arm during this action, but the results from his display of courage aided in the advance of his company.
