The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Robert G. Lauderman (MCSN: 520467), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as member of a Scout Sniper Platoon serving with the SECOND Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, from 15 June to 9 July 1944. When a sudden vicious onslaught was launched against his unit’s position and eight Japanese infantrymen infiltrated a vital sector of the line, Private First Class Lauderman immediately engaged the enemy soldiers in fierce hand-to-hand combat, fighting with determined aggressiveness until he was mortally wounded. By his daring initiative and great personal courage in the face of grave peril, Private First Class Lauderman was materially responsible for preventing a major break-through of lines at a strategic point, and his valiant conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
