The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant George B. Lamberson (MCSN: 0-19490), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while attached to Company E, Second Battalion, Fourth Marines (Reinforced), First Provisional Marine Brigade, Third Amphibious Corps, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Mariana Islands, 28 July 1944. When his platoon was cut off from the rest of the company during a series of fierce enemy attacks, First Lieutenant Lamberson braved heavy enemy mortar, rifle and machine-gun fire to inspire his platoon to continue the attack. Leading his men against a strongly defended enemy position, he regained contact with the company and, although seriously wounded during the latter part of the action, refused to be evacuated until his objective was accomplished and his platoon’s position secure. His aggressive fighting spirit and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon First Lieutenant Lamberson and the United States Naval Service.
