The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Anthony Kronberg (MCSN: 240806), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Crew Chief of an Amphibian Tractor of the First Amphibian Tractor Battalion, Fleet Marine Force, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Peleliu, Palau Islands, on 16 September 1944. Although suffering from a previous wound sustained in a mine explosion which disabled his own tractor, Corporal Kronberg courageously volunteered to guide an amphibian tractor through an open mine field. Persevering in his mission, he succeeded in opening a road through the mine field for the movement of vital supplies and was guiding the tractor on the return trip from the front lines when he was severely wounded by a mortar shell which struck the vehicle. His initiative and courage throughout this hazardous mission reflect the highest credit upon Corporal Kronberg and the United States Naval Service.
