The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant George C. Kliefoth (MCSN: 0-49460), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Platoon Commander of Company C, First Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 3 December 1950. With his company assigned the mission of securing a hill vital to the safety of the division supply route, First Lieutenant Kliefoth spearheaded the assault with his platoon and, upon reaching the crest of the hill, was pinned down by intense fire from small arms and machine guns. Realizing the seriousness of the situation and the importance of prompt action, he immediately exposed himself to the blistering fire to enable the remainder of the platoon to move forward and destroy the enemy troops. By his daring initiative, superb combat tactics and courageous actions in the face of grave peril, First Lieutenant Kliefoth served as an inspiration to all who observed him and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
