The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Lester C. Kincaid (MCSN: 465110), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company A, First Battalion, Twenty-fourth Marines, FOURTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 8 July 1944. When intense hostile fire caused many casualties in his company during its advance along one of the western beaches, Corporal Kincaid went forward to a beach where the Japanese were entrenched and directed effective and accurate mortar fire which resulted in the rout of the enemy and the attainment of the objective. By his skill and daring actions in the face of heavy machine-gun and rifle fire, he contributed materially to the occupation of the area, and his courageous devotion to duty upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
