The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Thomas McMaster Justice (MCSN: 1098516), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Fire Team Leader of Company F, Second Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on the night of 15 – 16 September 1951. During a night-long series of furious counterattacks by numerically superior hostile forces, Private First Class Justice repeatedly exposed himself to hurl grenades and fire his rifle at the onrushing enemy. Emplacing his men within 20 yards of the attackers, he bravely maintained his hazardous position and succeeded in killing eight of the enemy before he himself was mortally wounded by hostile fire. By his marked courage, inspiring leadership and aggressive fighting spirit, Private First Class Justice greatly aided his unit in successfully repulsing the enemy and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
