The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Warrant Officer Carrol L. Judson (MCSN: W-38956), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Platoon Leader of Company B, Fourth Tank Battalion, FOURTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 4 July 1944. Directing his tank down a narrow, hazardous road, Warrant Officer Judson courageously went to the assistance of an infantry company held down by severe hostile fire and conducted a thorough reconnaissance to locate the caves that were the source of the enemy attack. Expertly maneuvering his tank into position over heavily mined terrain, he effectively neutralized the Japanese strongholds, killing thirty-three of the enemy and capturing two heavy machine guns and large supplies of ammunition. By his inspiring leadership and courage, Warrant Officer Judson contributed materially to the success of the battalion’s operations and his zealous devotion to duty throughout reflect was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
