    The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Ralph L. Jones (MCSN: 366797), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Weapons Company, Twenty-fourth Marines, FOURTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces during the invasion of Namur Island, Kwajalein Atoll, on the morning of 2 February 1944. Valiantly manning the shield machine gun on a half track in the face of relentless hostile fire, Private First Class Jones cleared the way for the advance of our troops, destroying at least four points of Japanese resistance and annihilating seven or more of the enemy. His exceptional courage, heroic actions under fire and steadfast devotion to duty were important factors in the successful completion of a vital operation and reflect the highest credit upon Private First Class Jones and the United States Naval Service.
