    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Carrol L. Jahraus (MCSN: 519510), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Rifleman of Company E, Second Battalion, Eighth Marines, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 6 July 1944. With his squad pinned down by enemy automatic weapons fire from a cave, Private First Class Jahraus crawled into the mouth of the cave and killed all five of the occupants with his rifle. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Private First Class Jahraus and the United States Naval Service.
