The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Wade M. Jackson (MCSN: 0-6486), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Executive Officer of the Third Battalion, Third Marines, THIRD Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Bougainville, Solomon Islands, on 24 November 1943. At a time when enemy action was constantly destroying communications, Major Jackson enabled his battalion to keep communication lines in operation between the front line companies and the command post. Later the same day, he went forward under concentrated fire and reorganized a company that had lost its officers and succeeded in maintaining the company as a fighting unit, thereby preventing possible disorganization. By his professional skill and cool courage, he contributed materially to the success of an operation which destroyed a Japanese regiment. His unswerving devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
