The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Harold H. Husman (MCSN: 876172), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company A, Fifth Pioneer Battalion, FIFTH Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands on 20 March 1945. When tanks were unable to locate hostile installations which were holding up the advance of his unit, Corporal Husman voluntarily moved forward of the front lines to direct the fire of these vehicles on several enemy emplacements thereby aiding materially in the destruction of these positions. His initiative and courage in the face of great danger were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
