The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Carlton C. Hubbs (MCSN: 366191), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while a member of Battery G, Third Defense Battalion, Fleet Marine Force during action against enemy Japanese forces at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands on September 13, 1942. While serving on a search light, furnishing illumination for gun batteries which engaged strong Japanese naval units, Private Hubbs, with utter disregard for his own personal safety, exposed himself to enemy gun fire in order to render first aid to a wounded comrade. His heroic spirit of self-sacrifice in saving the life of another reflects great credit upon the United States Naval Service.
