The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Robert B. Hinson (MCSN: 1193164), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Wireman of Headquarters and Service Company, Second Battalion, Fifth Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 11 August 1952. When a heavy enemy mortar and artillery barrage severed wire communications to outpost positions, Corporal Hinson made repeated trips under intense fire to reinstall wire lines, thereby enabling the company to maintain vitally needed communications. Although suffering serious and painful leg wounds, he continued to reinstall wire lines under direct enemy observation until his wounds forced his evacuation. By his outstanding courage, initiative and unyielding devotion to duty, Corporal Hinson served to inspire all who observed him and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
