The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Glen C. Hill (MCSN: 907602), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Headquarters Company, Third Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Peleliu, Palau Islands on 4 October 1944. In an attack against strongly held Japanese positions, Private First Class Hill carried a flame thrower forward under heavy hostile sniper fire to burn a cave which had continuously hampered the movements of friendly troops in that area. Although wounded by an enemy grenade, he courageously returned time and again to press the attack. His gallant fighting spirit and outstanding devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Private First Class Hill and the United States Naval Service.
