The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Platoon Sergeant Jessie R. Glover (MCSN: 191408), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while a member of the Second Battalion, Second Marines, Reinforced, while scouting an area on Tulagi Island on 8 August 1942. Courageously leading a group of twenty volunteers into a house from which enemy snipers were firing, Platoon Sergeant Glover skillfully threw a hand grenade, killing three Japanese. In addition, he fearlessly entered a cave, then under fire, where snipers had just killed two Marines, discharged his hand grenades and killed two more Japanese. His valiant fighting spirit and loyal devotion reflect great credit upon the United States Naval Service.
