The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Michael Glemboski (MCSN: 903446), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for gallantry and intrepidity while serving as an Automatic Rifleman in a rifle Platoon of Company E, Second Battalion, Twenty-fifth Marines, FOURTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, on 14 March 1945. When heavy enemy fire stopped his platoon’s advance, Private First Class Glemboski voluntarily went forward to high ground where he directed accurate and effective counterfire. Although wounded by hostile fire, he remained at his position and continued to support his platoon until the Japanese positions were overrun. By his initiative, skill and coolness in the face of intense fire, he inspired the members of his platoon to their highest endeavor, thereby contributing to the successful advance of the platoon. His devotion to duty reflects the highest credit on Private First Class Glemboski and the United States Naval Service.
