The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Marion L. With his platoon pinned down by heavy fire from the enemy machine guns, Private First Class Gale braved the intense fire to lead tanks to a position from which they could silence the hostile weapons. His courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
