The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Jaques G. Fuller (MCSN: 0-11462), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Assistant Air Defense Officer of the U.S.S. COLORADO (BB-45) in action against enemy Japanese forces in Lingayen Gulf, Philippine Islands, on 9 January 1945. Although painfully wounded when his vessel was damaged by hostile gunfire which killed or wounded many personnel including the Aid Defense Officer, Captain Fuller immediately assumed command of all antiaircraft batteries and made dispositions of personnel that enabled his ship to continue firing against hostile aircraft. In addition, he courageously assisted the more seriously wounded until ordered from his station for urgent medical treatment. BY his technical skill and gallant devotion to duty, Captain Fuller upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
