The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Raymond C. Frost (MCSN: 432148), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the Third Battalion, Twenty-Fifth Marines, FOURTH Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 20 June 1944. Gallantly leading his squad in an attack against a strongly entrenched enemy retarding the advance of his company, Corporal Frost fearlessly advanced through a direct line of hostile fire and, boldly charging the heavily fortified cave alone, succeeded in wiping out the strongpoint and killing twelve Japanese troops. His daring initiative, inspiring leadership and self-sacrificing efforts in the face of grave danger were contributing factors in the success of this and numerous other perilous engagements, and his unwavering devotion to duty throughout reflects the highest credit upon Corporal Frost and the United States Naval Service.
