The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Charles D. Fredrick (MCSN: 0-20599), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Commanding Officer of Company E, Second Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 7 November 1950. When his company was halted by an enemy roadblock and immediately subjected to intense hostile machine gun and small arms fire while proceeding in convoy through a steep-walled ravine, Captain Frederick continued to direct his unit in successfully beating off the enemy, despite painful wounds sustained in the initial stages of the action. By his skillful leadership and fighting spirit, he served to inspire his men to heroic efforts in destroying over sixty of the enemy and routing the remaining hostile force, thereby contributing materially to the success of his company. His marked courage and unswerving devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Captain Fredrick and the United States Naval Service.
