His judgment, intelligent direction and able leadership in the face of intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire resulted in the destruction of a number of the enemy aircraft as well as the infliction of extensive damage to airfield installations and other military objectives. His courage and skill in carrying out his duties and in the successful accomplishment of the assigned mission was at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
