The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Donald P. Frame (MCSN: 0-7066), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as Pilot of a Fighter Plane in Marine Fighting Squadron ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-THREE (VMF-123), in action against enemy Japanese forces on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, 12 April 1945. When a hostile formation was detected approaching our surface units, Major Frame climbed to meet the enemy planes despite a defective engine. Maneuvering skillfully in the face of intense antiaircraft fire from ships of our Task Group, he intercepted and shot down one of the Japanese planes. His superb airmanship and gallant fighting spirit reflect the highest credit upon Major Frame and the United States Naval Service.
