The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Thomas E. Foreman (MCSN: 349643), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the Antitank battery, Twenty-second Marines, Fifth Amphibious corps, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Parry Island, Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Islands 22 February 1944. Serving with distinction during a six-hour period, Private Foreman drove a self-propelled gun transporting vital ammunition to front line troops. Relieved from his duties, he volunteered to carry stretchers from the front lines and, continuing to serve heroically although ordered to rest, carried burning mortar shell cases into the ocean. By his courage and devotion to duty, Private Foreman contributed materially to the success of the operations against the enemy and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
