The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Donald U. Foreman (MCSN: 823648), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company A, First Battalion, Twenty-Sixth Marines, FIFTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, 20 March 1945. Braving heavy enemy rifle fire to guide tanks into position to fire on several hostile pillboxes holding up his company’s advance, Private First Class Foreman courageously remained outside the tanks to direct their fire. By his indomitable fighting spirit and determination, he contributed materially to the success of the mission. His devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
