The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant Vincent A. Ford (MCSN: 0-18837), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Mortar Platoon Leader attached to the First Battalion, Twenty-Second Marines, First Provisional Marine Brigade, during action against enemy Japanese forces in the vicinity of Agat Village, Guam, Mariana Islands, on 21 July 1944. With the two assault platoons suffering heavy casualties under the fierce resistance of the Japanese, First Lieutenant Ford daringly moved forward to adjust his fire for greater effectiveness and, after making his way up the difficult route in the face of devastating hostile fire, was mortally wounded. By his valiant initiative and aggressive fighting spirit, First Lieutenant Ford inspired the front line troops to intensified offensive action, and his unwavering devotion to duty throughout the engagement reflects the highest credit upon the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
