The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Thell H. Fisher (MCSN: 0-8709), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Commanding Officer of Company F, Second Battalion, Sixth Marines, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 15 and 16 June 1944. After leading his assault company from the beach, Captain Fisher reached his objective and, in the face of intense enemy fire, organized and coordinated the tank and infantry defense of his company and supporting weapons to repel heavy enemy counterattacks throughout the night and to inflict severe casualties among the hostile forces. Sending his tanks against the enemy at the height of the greatest attack on the morning of 16 June, he was instrumental in routing that Japanese. His aggressive fighting spirit and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
