The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class William P. Eisele (MCSN: 838229), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a First Leader of an Antiaircraft Gun while serving with the Marine Detachment, U.S.S. CABOT (CVL-28), in action against enemy Japanese forces in the vicinity of the Philippine Islands, on 25 November 1944. Although wounded during a heavy attack by hostile aircraft, Private First Class Eisele valiantly remained at his station and continued to supply his gun with ammunition, leaving his station only when ordered to do so by an officer. His initiative and courage were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
