The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major William P. Robinson (AFSN: 0-45478), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot near Hanoi, North Vietnam on 14 August 1966. On that date, while piloting a specially equipped F-105F Thunderchief, Major Robinson led his flight in an attack against a hostile SA-2 surface-to-air missile installation. With complete disregard for his own safety, and in the face of continuous ground fire, missile firings, and an attack by hostile aircraft, Major Robinson pressed the attack and was instrumental in the destruction of the site. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Robinson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
