The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Private First Class Robert E. Dow (MCSN: 367667), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for gallantry in action while serving with the Fourth Marine Raider Battalion at New Georgia, Solomon Islands, in advancing under enemy fire to locate and destroy a hostile machine-gun emplacement and kill all of its occupants on 1 July 1943.
