The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Platoon Sergeant James Cecil Dixon (MCSN: 296091), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against forces of the Japanese Army. On 24 January 1944, on Hill 660, Cape Gloucester, New Britain, an exceptionally steep and well defended hill, in dense jungle undergrowth, over difficult and unfamiliar terrain, against a determined and well entrenched enemy firing from concealed positions, Sergeant Dixon continually exposed himself to enemy fire and with utter disregard for his own personal safety, Sergeant Dixon repeated toured the lines, encouraging the men. He also made several trips back to the lines to expedite the supply of ammunition. His great courage and unselfish devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
