The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Colonel James Eugene McInerney, Jr. (AFSN: 0-23452), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Combat Aircrew member in Southeast Asia on 29 June 1967. On that date, while under intense and accurate fire from opposing forces, Colonel McInerney demonstrated courage, determination and skill in pressing home a devastating low level radar bombing attack against a hostile position. Maneuvering in the face of radar controlled guns and missiles, he succeeded in destroying a valuable hostile asset. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel McInerney reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
