The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Albert Delgado (MCSN: 955164), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company G, Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, 13 May 1945. When all the men in his squad became casualties during a hostile counterattack and were evacuated, Private Delgado remained in the squad, although wounded himself, to aid in repelling the enemy. While under intense hostile fire, he manned alternately an automatic rifle and a machine gun from different positions in order to deceive the enemy as to the strength of the defense position, thereby successfully holding off the counterattack until replacements arrived. His outstanding courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
