The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Robert Vincent Damon (MCSN: 819667), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Platoon Guide of Company D, Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 10 April 1951. With his squad pinned down by intense and accurate automatic-weapons fire from an enemy bunker Sergeant Damon bravely charged forward through the heavy fire and assaulted the hostile strong point. When his rifle ammunition was expended, he boldly continued to fire into the aperture of the bunker with his pistol until he was struck by enemy fire and fell, mortally wounded. By his marked courage, daring initiative and aggressive fighting spirit, Sergeant Damon served to inspire his comrades to heroic efforts in securing the objective and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
