    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Marvin M. Corff (MCSN: 837918), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a War Dog Handler of Military Police Company, THIRD Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces during the assault on enemy held Guam, Mariana Islands on 2 September 1944. Noticing his ward dog alert to some thick undergrowth in their pat during a rest period while on an all-day patrol, Private First Class Corff unhesitatingly advanced alone to investigate the undergrowth and discovered an ambush of five hostile soldiers. Opening fire on them with his rifle, he killed four and drove off the other. By his aggressive fighting spirit and cool courage, Private First Class Corff saved the patrol from ambush and his devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
